The Position

Roger Williams University (RWU), with an enrollment of over 6,500 students, is experiencing an unusually dynamic period of growth and development. The President and Provost, now in their 7th and 6th years respectively, embrace entrepreneurial endeavors, model collaboration, advocate creative initiatives, and support the University's deans as they advance their individual schools and colleges. In order to provide more effective leadership, the University has reorganized its Feinstein College of Arts and Sciences and its School of Education into news a School of Social and Natural Sciences (SSNS) and a School of Humanities, Arts, and Education (SHAE). The inaugural Dean for the latter will have the opportunity to frame a strategic vision for the school and to oversee its implementation. She or he will work with the faculty, administration, staff, students, alumni, and donors, of their respective schools to develop strategies to advance the quality of student learning, foster collaboration across programs and schools, support research and creative work by faculty, and advance a strategic vision in coordination with the overall direction of the University.

School of Humanities, Arts, and Education

The SHAE has 72 faculty and 14 staff. It is comprised of the departments of Studio Art; Performing Arts (Music, Theatre, Dance); Communications, Graphic Design, and Web Development; English and Creative Writing; History and American Studies; Modern Languages and Philosophy; Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition; and Education. Although primarily undergraduate, the school has a small graduate program in Education. Most SHAE faculty also teach in our interdisciplinary Core Curriculum, contributing innovative courses organized around sets of course- and program-level learning outcomes, as well as in the emerging interdisciplinary major and minor programs housed in the Division of University Studies. SHAE faculty have leadership roles in both areas and ensure that the benefits of the Humanities and the Arts are central to the undergraduate experience at RWU for all students regardless of major. The school's faculty are also active scholars and artists with national and international reputations in their fields. Link to full job description and application information:
