Job Description Summary:

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts.

DAR seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GW's mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.

Development staff connects the passions of our alumni and supporters with the aspirations of our students and faculty; to provide the resources that ensure GW continues to make history. Alumni Relations staff engages GW's more than 270,000 alumni located around the world and offers tools to connect and network, develops benefits and services, creates programs and events, provides opportunities to volunteer and give, and shares news and information.

The George Washington University, Division of Development and Alumni Relations is seeking an Assistant Director, Donor Relations for the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) that will aid us in fulfilling our mission. The successful candidate will join the School of Engineering and Applied Science Development team to support the school's fundraising efforts and build affinity among the alumni base.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of Donor Relations, SEAS will report directly to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) for SEAS and will coordinate all development initiatives ranging from creation of marketing materials, memorandums, and gift agreements to coordinating leadership giving and donor stewardship on behalf of the school. The Assistant Director is also the primary point of contact for the school's National Advisory Council, working to ensure consistent engagement; and is responsible for development related events coordinating the planning, execution, and follow up stages. This position works closely with the AVP on developing strategies for effective donor engagement.
• Works in tandem with the AVP and Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science on the development of SEAS's Women in Engineering initiative with a focus on designing engagement opportunities for prospects and developing affiliated communications.
• Supports leadership-level giving prospects as the point of contact for Leadership and Annual Gift Team visits. Researches and prioritizes alumni and friends of the University by analyzing donor giving patterns and engaging in strategic interactions through emails, phone calls, etc.
• Plans and coordinates events such as Board of Advisor's meetings, prospect/salon dinners, and other development related events, meetings and receptions. Executes two annual board meetings and all board-related conference calls and committee meetings. Tracks and maintains board philanthropy for office records including composing all board giving statements.
• Collaborates closely with the Associate Director of Alumni Relations to develop a pipeline for alumni engagement particularly with the Engineering Alumni Association and the National Advisory Council; and a holistic communication strategy for volunteer advisory board members.
• Performs other work related duties as assigned, such as writing donor acknowledgement letters and other general donor correspondence, which will mean collaborating with staff across DAR. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Ability to perform assigned duties independently and work well in a fast-paced team environment. Excellent written communication, customer service, and organizational skills. Strong time management skills, a detail oriented approach to work, and the ability to prioritize are essential.

This position will have to handle sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner. The ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, while still maintaining a high attention to detail is essential. Demonstrated ability in decision-making process with significant analytical skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook, Google Apps (Gmail, GCal) essential for success.
