Job Description Summary:

The Division of External Relations is seeking a Master Carpenter, Assistant Technical Director. The division combines the communications, government relations, marketing and creative services and events functions of the university. This position will report to the Production Manager.

Responsibilities include:

Serves in the role of acting production manager on a rotational, as needed basis.

Trains and assists stage crew in the operation and maintenance of the house rigging system, with the intention of developing assistant fly engineers capable of working on a rotational basis.

Assists and works with electrics and sound crews as needed.

Serves as head of the stage carpentry department; supervises and coordinates all stage carpentry domains including fly systems, rigging, soft goods, scene shop, tools; participates in the advancing of incoming shows regarding the aforementioned areas with clients and the Production Manager; provides such service in a safe and professional manner.

Assists the Production Manager/Technical Director in the set-up and staging of events to include load-in and load-out of events; assists with the maintenance of, and reports on, the status of stage equipment; reviews and drafts lighting and scenic design plots and ensures the safe and successful implementation of such in accordance with clients' needs; oversees the restoration of the stage to basic hanging schedule of lights and drapery.

Maintains carpentry and rigging equipment; reports conditions and maintenance situations directly to the Production Manager.

Trains and supervises stage crew in the safe operation of all shop equipment.

Works in collaboration with other GWU Venues in assisting with rigging, stage planning and maintenance as needed.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Professional carpentry, rigging, and stage craft experience, to include theatrical, concert experience.

Experience working directly with clients and supervising technical/stage employees to build, rig, and support stage needs.

Proficiency with computers and experience drafting.
