Web & Communication Technology Manager




The Office of University Controller (OUC) is responsible for managing the University's system of record - the Financial System - and its interfaces with purchasing, accounts payable, travel expense, human capital management, financial reporting, and other subsystems. The office works closely with the campus controllers, the state controller, and the state auditor's office to ensure that fiscal practices comply with external/internal rules and regulations and generally accepted accounting principles; prepares the University's tax filings; manages payroll/benefit accounting functions; and oversees the certification of effort reporting on sponsored research. It communicates fiscal policies and procedures to the University community through blogs, website, and training programs, and provides 1:1 assistance through the Finance & Procurement Help Desk. The OUC also administers a Continuing Professional Education program and the CU Innovation & Efficiency Awards employee recognition program.

The Web & Communication Technology Manager develops and maintains the online presence for two offices in University of Colorado (CU) System Administration: the Office of University Controller, and the Procurement Service Center. This position is responsible for website design and communications/multimedia strategy to further both long- and short-term missions and goals.

The Web & Communication Technology Manager position reports to the Director of Finance & Procurement Business Services (FPBS) in the Office of University Controller, and supervises the unit's Multimedia & eLearning Designer. FPBS is responsible for website design, communications (newsletters, blogs, tweets, etc.), online/in-person training, technical/procedural documentation, policy development, and help desk assistance. The position is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff.



What you will need:

To thrive in this position, the individual must be a hands-on professional with extensive experience in both website design and development/management, with a focus on usability, interactivity and multimedia. The individual must be a creative and self-motivating problem-solver, able to diagnose problems, and willing to figure out solutions. He or she must be adept at managing multiple competing projects/priorities and must perform well as a collaborative member in a tightly knit team. Ideally, he or she has experience supervising other professional staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop well-written, highly-usable, accessible, and dynamic websites through a combination of hand coding and adapting Content Management System (CMS) software.
  • Incorporate elements of interactivity to promote user engagement.
  • Complete Search Engine Optimization (SEO) processes for maximum utility and accessibility of site content.
  • Monitor site visit analytics and suggest improvements to design/content to improve engagement.
  • Comply with federal accessibility guidelines by interpreting and following Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.
  • Comply with University of Colorado security and branding standards and best practices.
  • Apply a full spectrum of communication tools and strategies to assure targeted and effective dissemination of office messages.
  • Collaborate with FPBS team to enhance technology use and increase engagement in town halls and other presentations.
  • Develop multimedia-enhanced general communications and promotional materials.
  • Provide guidance to the FPBS Multimedia & eLearning Designer in researching, testing, and identifying tools and technologies for innovative and effective online communications and training.
  • Take key communications initiatives from concept to execution including facilitating content gathering, scripting, storyboarding, digital asset creation, and delivery via websites within, and independent of, the University CMS.

  • Ability to work with constituents to plan, architect, and design large-scale websites.
  • Ability to utilize HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, JQuery, Bootstrap, FTP, and Camtasia.
  • Ability to create online forms through both a CMS, and via Adobe PDF Fillable forms.
  • Ability to create wireframes, content plans, and other assets to facilitate website and multimedia content planning and creation.
  • Experience with Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
  • Ability to create and facilitate effective presentations, including slide creation, webinar coaching, content editing, etc.
  • Skilled in problem-diagnosis and problem-solving.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Multimedia, Graphic Design, Communications, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education (education requirement may be substituted by professional experience on a year for year basis).
  • Five (5) years' experience planning, designing, creating, and producing online and print-based media.
  • Five (5) years' experience working in a Content Management System (CMS).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Masters of Fine Arts, or related field).
  • Successful project management and cross-unit communication experience.
  • Previous experience developing websites in Drupal, including working with modules.
  • Designing call-to-action (marketing) materials.
  • Creating training-specific materials.
  • Experience teaching, especially in an online environment.
  • Overseeing the production of animation and video assets.
  • Working experience with webinars.
  • Experience with facilitating a social media presence for business, including YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  • Experience working with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software such as SalesForce.
  • Strong presentation skills.
