Functional Title Director of Development for University Advancement

Position Summary

The Director of Development is responsible for raising funds for the Weatherspoon Art Museum, Student Affairs, and International Programs. He/She will develop relationships with alumni, donors, prospective donors and volunteers and secure philanthropic support for strategic initiatives within the focus areas. This position reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor of University Advancement.

Below is a breakdown of duties for each area:

Weatherspoon Art Museum (50%)
• Qualify, cultivate and solicit major and planned giving prospects.
• Cultivate longer-term leadership gifts for campaign.
• Coordinate strategy and moves management for Principal gifts prospects in coordination with the Associate Vice Chancellor.
• Provide Museum Director and staff with guidance in conceptualizing of funding opportunities for ongoing initiatives as well as prioritizing longer-term staff operating goals and plans to formulate campaign priorities.
• Help lead WAM staff to move forward operational priorities so that funding opportunities are vetted and ready for donors (e.g. space-related visitor experience changes).
• Help create corporate sponsorship and strategic foundation fundraising strategy.

Student Affairs Fundraising (40%)
• Qualify, cultivate and solicit major and planned giving prospects.
• Act as frontline fundraising liaison to Veterans Resource Center and Housing/Residence Life (quad naming opportunities) where we have specific donor interest. Other areas of focus include student leadership, health and wellness, and Greek life.
• Provide fundraising support to UNCG Guarantee Scholars Program.
• Work with Alumni Office to cultivate major/planned giving techniques and encourage collaboration between engagement and fundraising.
• Identify key prospects for Excellence Foundation.
• Provide guidance, when asked, to faculty/program directors in shaping the case and identifying donors (e.g. University Teaching and Learning Commons, UNCG ADHD Clinic summer camp).

International Programs (10%)
• Organize stewardship of existing funds.
• Identify prospects living both here and abroad / Help shepherd coding project which will be key to further prospect identification.
• Define campaign priorities
• Develop annual giving email campaign with the Annual Giving office

Minimum Qualifications

As set forth by UNC-GA for SAAO Tier II Communications and Marketing Directors

Relevant post-baccalaureate degree with a minimum of three (3) years or greater of related professional experience in marketing, communications, journalism, public affairs, or a related field; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant undergraduate degree and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.

Preferred Qualifications

Outstanding oral and written communication skills; commitment to collaborative approach to fundraising; excellent organizational skills; exceptional attention to detail; ability and willingness to travel on both a regional and national basis; 3-5 years of experience in development, preferably in higher education.
