The primary mission of the Department of Restorative Sciences involves intense student contact to provide didactic, preclinical and clinical training in all aspects of undergraduate dental education. Teaching responsibilities for this position include participation in didactic, preclinical and clinical courses in restorative dentistry and associated areas of study. Participation in graduate level training programs is possible as the department mission dictates.
Participation in scholarly research activities and faculty practice is expected.
This position is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at Instructor/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor academic rank. Salary and academic rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Duties are as follows:
Present dental educational services in didactic, pre-clinical and clinical venues. Create and present educational materials as required for assigned instructional duties. Perform administrative tasks associated with all educational venues (grading, seminar participation, one-on-one student encounters, etc.) (30%)
Supervise student dental health care delivery (DMD Program, Dental Hygiene Program and Graduate Dental Programs) as assigned. (25%)
Evaluate students didactic, pre-clinical and clinical performance and assign appropriate grades along with providing feedback for performance approval. Determine appropriate competency levels for student performance. (5%)
Create and administer examinations and evaluations to measure student performance. (5%)
INSTRUCTION TOTAL 65%
Conduct research and scholarly activities resulting in published manuscripts in peer reviewed publication at rates assigned by the Department Chair.
RESEARCH TOTAL 10%
Treat patients in the faculty practice facilities and build a private patient base to provide contracted amount of income to support the faculty base salary as negotiated with the Department Chair.
CLINICAL PATIENT CARE TOTAL 20%
Provide service to the Dental College of Georgia, Augusta University and the dental profession through participation on school and university committees; participation in local, regional and national professional organizations by serving on committees and other opportunities to represent the Dental College of Georgia at these levels. Attend and provide dental continuing education to demonstrate commitment to life-long learning.
SERVICE TOTAL 5%
- DDS or DMD from an ADA accredited dental school.
- DDS or DMD (equivalent to US degree) and a minimum of 2 years post-graduate training from a CODA accredited postgraduate training program in an ADA recognized specialty of dentistry.
- Eligible for licensure by the Georgia Board of Dentistry
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Post-graduate training in general dentistry or prosthodontics and prior experience in dental education and significant clinical experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dental educational/clinical environment
