Assistant Professor of Biology - Environmental Biology

The Department of Biology at Rhodes College seeks qualified applicants for a tenure-track faculty position to begin in August of 2018. The Department invites candidates who can contribute to the goal of diversifying our faculty. Candidates must have a Ph.D. and must have a background and expertise within an area broadly defined as Conservation Biology, Ecology, or Environmental Science. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to teaching in a liberal arts environment as well as to maintaining an active research program that engages undergraduate students. Teaching responsibilities will include five lectures/labs per year (labs count as a full teaching involvement). These will normally include an introductory course in Environmental Science, plus an upper-level Conservation Biology course suitable for Biology and Environmental Science majors. Other teaching opportunities include senior seminar and participation in the introductory biology course covering organismal topics.

The Department of Biology maintains an active partnership with the Memphis Zoo and is an affiliate of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. Nearby field sites include Overton Park, Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park, Shelby Farms, and the Wolf River wetlands. The successful applicant will participate in the interdisciplinary Environmental Studies and Sciences program, and we encourage applications from individuals whose interests go beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries.
