Nature of Work
This person serves as an academic advisor to students in the Richards College of Business. The role of the academic advisor focuses on student retention, progression and graduation and involves various activities and duties that facilitate students’ success.
In this position, the academic advisor will provide advising for students in the Richards College of Business. The advisor will be asked to participate in outreach efforts to connect students to advising, maintain detailed records of appointments including information disseminated to students, refer students to appropriate campus resources, and adhere to all policies associated with the university, particularly those regarding confidentiality of student information.
In addition to academic advising, common tasks might include representing the Richards College at various orientation and student information events, assisting in the development of marketing plans to promote Richards College programs to current and prospective students, conducting surveys of graduates and employers, assisting with college and career development for current students, assisting in assessment activities in the Richards College, and developing special programs for students in the Richards College. The candidate must also have the ability to use and learn technology to include Microsoft Office and various technological tools used for academic advising.
High School diploma and Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university are required. Excellent communication skills and ability to relate well with students, faculty, and staff. Good organizational skills are required. Good critical thinking skills and ability to accurately advise students on course selections. Good analytical skills, and good computer aptitude and skills (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, publishing and graphics software) are also expected.
One year of experience in higher education in advising or related area. Experience with Student Information Systems such as Banner SIS is preferred.
$35,796 (minimum) - $46,740 (midpoint)
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
May occasionally involve lifting materials from 10 to 25 pounds.
