Senior Professional Research Assistant

The Adult and Child Consortium for Health Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS) has an opening for a full-time Senior Professional Research Assistant (PRA). This position is responsible for coordinating qualitative data collection, analysis and reporting under the guidance of a qualitative methodologist. This position will provide research support to investigators by assisting with implementing qualitative research protocols on a variety of research projects. The position may also involve assisting with ACCORDS programmatic needs, such as staffing, budget management, and other duties as determined by ACCORD's Director, Dr. Allison Kempe. The ideal candidate will have experience and training in qualitative research design, analysis and presentation of results, and experience with developing and submitting institutional review board protocols with pragmatic trial or health services research design.


General tasks include, but are not limited to:
  • Day-to-day activities related to the implementation of research protocols, including engaging with stakeholder groups, conducting and leading in-depth interviews or focus groups with various groups (patients, parents/family members, adolescents, providers, and community members) and coordinating and attending meetings with project investigators and staff
  • Conducting tasks in support of key informant interviews or focus groups, such as recruitment, participant consenting, payment, and hiring of transcription services
  • Responsible for development of Institutional Review Board applications, amendments, and continuing review documents for study projects
  • Developing and maintaining qualitative datasets, including entering, tracking, cleaning and preparing transcripts for analyses
  • Conducting literature searches, and potentially practice observations and/or process mapping
  • Participate in coding of transcripts
  • Running queries and reports in qualitative data management software (Atlas.ti)
  • Preparing and submitting manuscripts or reports for publication
  • Assisting in poster and presentation formatting and design for professional conference presentations
  • Various activities related to grant procedures - includes funder progress reports and assisting with budget tracking
  • Assist in staffing needs in coordination with project investigators

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in health-related field, plus at least 2 years of experience in a research environment
  • At least 3 years of qualitative research data collection, coding and analysis experience
  • Proficiency with Atlas.ti software
  • Experience with recruitment and enrollment of research participants
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Comfortable working with patients, caregivers/family members, providers, and community stakeholders
  • Experience with developing qualitative data collection instruments and coding or analysis of qualitative data
  • Experience with qualitative data management software, such as ATLAS.ti©Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software suite
  • Must be team-oriented, detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Ability to represent the University and ACCORDS in a professional and positive manner

Required Competencies: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with qualitative research data collection, including leading focus groups and conducting interviews
  • Experience with recruitment and enrollment of research participants
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Comfortable working with patients, caregivers/family members, clinicians, and community stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook), and experience conducting Internet searches
  • Versatility and the ability to operate effectively and efficiently according to the needs and demands of concurrent projects

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous employment in a university environment
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, written and oral
  • Experience submitting protocols to an Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  • Experience with reference management software
  • Experience in public health or health services research
