IT Manager - Non-Credit and Java Applications

Primary Function of Organization Unit: Enterprise Application Services (EAS) is in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) division at North Carolina State University. EAS is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, enhancement & maintenance of the University's enterprise business applications. This includes: development, operation & maintenance of all enterprise administrative systems (Advancement, Financials, HR, Identity & Access Mgmt, Portal and Student Information Systems, Imaging/Document Management, Non-Credit Education, Business Intelligence, etc.), configuration management, maintenance, enhancements, and application integration.
Essential Job Duties: The IT Manager provides technical, functional & managerial leadership within the EAS ePayment, Java and Non-Credit Systems Team. The Manager is responsible for providing application development and support services for assigned enterprise systems and application technical support for central offices and colleges. The position manages a team of application developers performing: business processes analysis; change request evaluation; functional and technical specification development; coding; unit and system test development and execution; code migration; production support; and system maintenance. The Manager position also provides senior level technical and functional guidance and support to the team. Current applications this team will support are REPORTER (non-credit), Lab Management, SAGE (Teaching licensure tracking) and Motor Pool. The application technologies used on this team include Mendix, Java and Perl.
Department Required Skills: - Application development/business analysis experience. In addition to managing a team of analysts and developers, this position will also be required to handle a portion of the application development tasks with Mendix, Perl and Java applications. - Ability to independently, quickly, and efficiently identify and solve technical problems that can impact a large number of customers. - Ability to combine strong technical knowledge with a strong understanding of customer requirements to offer customer solutions to problems in a very practical, timely and efficient manner. - Strong organizational and communication skills are essential. Thorough understanding of the project development life cycle, including but not limited to application analysis, development, testing, documentation, approval and post migration validation. Attention to detail and ability to form strong relationships between team members, customers, and management is essential.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - Three years or more years of experience with applications development on registration or billing systems. - Experience with Java or Mendix application development is strongly preferred. - Minimum three years of application development/business analysis experience. - Experience managing a team of analysts and developers. this position will also be required to handle a portion of the and/or application development tasks with Mendix, Perl and Java applications.
