DIRECTOR OF THE WRITING PROGRAM, College of Arts & Sciences (9822/H2917)
Pending budgetary approval, the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) at Boston University seeks an accomplished scholar and proven academic leader to direct its award-winning writing program. The Director will hold a tenured appointment as Associate or Full Professor in English or another appropriate department.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Programs and Policies, the Director will provide intellectual and administrative leadership to the program, ensuring its long-term success in all of its dimensions. Specific responsibilities will include leading an administrative team comprising three associate directors and three staff administrators, supervising faculty hiring, guiding the development of the program’s curriculum and pedagogical approach, overseeing ongoing and annual assessments, providing training and professional development to lecturers and graduate-student instructors, and pursuing new initiatives in consultation with College leadership. The Director will teach two courses per academic year.

A PhD in rhetoric, writing studies, English, or a related field, as well as a scholarly record and agenda warranting tenure at a major research university, are required. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in the history or theory of rhetoric, including ethnic and minority rhetorics; new media and multimodal communication; applied linguistics, including translingualism and multilingual communication; or digital humanities.
