Responsibilities:
Overview: Delta State University invites applications for the Founding Director of the Teaching and Learning Center. This exciting new opportunity will work collaboratively with faculty, department chairs, staff, and administrators to open the Center. Its purpose is to increase professional development opportunities for faculty and improve teaching and leadership in order to increase student success. The Center will strive to enhance teaching through educating faculty about pedagogical research, providing tools for self-assessment, and encouraging adoption of best-practices. The position reports directly to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and will be supported by an advisory committee. The director will create and manage faculty development resources and programming and be responsible for strategic planning.

  • Develop, coordinate, implement, and supervise a variety of workshops for large groups, small groups, and individual professional development opportunities for part-time and full-time faculty.
  • Establish a centralized digital repository of teaching resources and oversee the distribution of these resources to support the development of the instructional community.
  • Assist faculty who want to improve their pedagogical practice generally or in a specific modality (online, hybrid, etc.) in a supportive, non-supervisory capacity.
  • Stay abreast of literature on teaching and learning and network with national groups and individuals.
  • Facilitate discussions on topics related to the scholarship of teaching and learning and the improvement of teaching.
  • Promote a campus culture that values and recognizes the importance of teaching excellence and student learning.
  • Work with various entities to identify grant opportunities and develop proposals to support endeavors of the Center.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree
    • Record of teaching excellence at the college level
    • Expertise in pedagogy
    • Expertise in educational technology
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others
    • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse, non-traditional, first-generation student population

    Salary:
    Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.

    Minimum Qualifications:


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Earned Ph.D. or terminal degree
    • Prior experience working in/with a Center for Teaching and Learning on a college campus
    • Prior experience leading faculty development that contributed to measured, enhanced student success, particularly among diverse/first-generation students
    • Experience pursuing and obtaining grant support for curriculum design or faculty development

    Additional Information:
    Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
    Commensurate with experience and qualifications
