THE POSITION: The Executive Vice President - Chief Operating Officer (EVP-COO) is a new position at Claremont Lincoln University (CLU). CLU is a nonprofit, online, Master’s and executive education institution, accredited by the Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC). The EVP-COO will take responsibility for all internal operations, including marketing, enrollment, instructional design, information technology and student services of the University. The EVP-COO has responsibility for the internal, operational financial success of the institution, and is responsible for state-of-the art, online, learning programs and related enrollment and online student services. The EVP-COO will report to the President to assure coordination; will attend all Board meetings along with the President; and will work with the Board and keep the Board informed on the EVP-COO’s areas of responsibility to assure the Board’s execution of its legal and governance responsibilities. This includes the EVP-COO’s consultation with and reporting to the Board on plans, programs, organizational changes, and outcomes and results. The President will retain responsibility for academics and external relations of the University.
The EVP-COO directs and coordinates internal operations in support of Claremont Lincoln’s mission and vision and prioritizes the success of its students and graduates. The individual will be responsible for formulating policies and plans in the best interests of students and student enrollment. The individual will coordinate with the President to assure effective execution of the academic functions of the University. The EVP-COO will have authority and responsibility for all operational personnel, contracts and licenses with the usual obligation of keeping the President and the Board informed in a timely fashion and working within the authorized budget.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate for this job will possess a doctoral degree or an equivalent terminal degree such as an MBA. The candidate will have senior managerial experience and excellent communication skills. The individual will have demonstrated through career, previous work experience, board memberships or volunteer activities a commitment to what is embodied by the CLU mission, vision and values. The successful candidate will have experience with strategic development, allocation, and oversight of the University’s operating budget; the development of successful enrollment plans that are innovative, analytically rigorous and data-driven, and continually assessed; innovation in online learning in higher education; related experience with instructional design and learning management systems or their management. Experience with or management of successful B2B and B2C program marketing and sales or enrollment management is essential. Experience in academic leadership, successful work with board governance, and experience with institutional accreditation are highly desired.
