The director provides vision and leadership of mental health services on campus and is responsible for ensuring the services meet the needs of students while supporting the mission of the Division of Student Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree and significant experience in college counseling center environment.

Current or the ability to obtain professional clinical licensure within six months of start date in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.

Responsibility / Duty

Direct Clinical Contact and Case Management
• Provide psychological counseling services to students on individual and group basis.
• Coordinate student referrals to community practitioners.

Responsibility / Duty

• Provide consultation to faculty, staff and parents regarding students of concern.
• Manage urgent situations as needed. Assist other departments in addressing student crisis situations as they arise.
• Work collaboratively with the Student Health Center to triage and manage student issues. Collaborate with University Psychiatrist on a regular basis.
• Serve on call and triage off-hours events as necessary.

Responsibility / Duty

Supervision & Departmental Leadership
• Hire, train supervise, and evaluate three professional psychological counselors.
• Co-supervise Receptionist with the Director of the Student Health Center.
• Prepare the Counseling Center annual budget for review by the Dean for Student Success. Monitor the budget on a regular basis.
• Gather and analyze demographic and general clinical data of Counseling Center clients. Prepare and disseminate annual reports.
• Perform departmental assessments in accordance with University assessment requirements.
• Maintain active involvement in University-wide policies, procedures, and practices, particularly related to purchasing, budgets, and hiring.

Responsibility / Duty

Collaboration Across Campus
• Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with campus departments, including Student Health, Campus & Residential Services, Center for Teaching & Learning, and International Student Services.
• Educate faculty on working with students of concern and other current mental health topics.
• Inform University community of best practices in college mental health counseling.
• Support and assist Student Affairs objectives and programs as appropriate (i.e. Orientation, student leader trainings and student retention efforts).
• Prepare and present programs to campus community (i.e. classes, trainings, faculty and staff meetings, student groups) as requested.
• Consult with the Threat Assessment Team as needed.

Graduate Training Program
• Oversee the graduate training program to ensure compliance with expected standards.
• Direct interview and hiring process annually.
• Promote Marymount training program to local graduate schools.
