Assistant/Associate Professor in Secondary Transition

The Department of Special Education at Illinois State University in Normal, IL, a large public university with state and nationally recognized teacher preparation programs, invites applications for one tenure-track position to be filled at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in the area of Transition. We offer graduate and undergraduate programs leading to licensure in multicategorical disabilities (LBS), low vision/blindness (LVB), and deaf/hard of hearing (DHH). We also have a graduate certificate program in secondary transition services. Our LBS program is among the largest undergraduate programs in the country, and both our undergraduate and Master’s degree programs have newly revised curricula with established connections with school partners. The Department is an ideal choice for an individual seeking a balanced professional life where contributions in teaching, research, and service are valued.


Position: This tenure-track position, to start on August 16, 2018, is a nine-month position with the opportunity for summer employment. Responsibilities may include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting and supervising research activities, seeking external funding, and providing university and professional service. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.


Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in special education or related field with expertise in secondary transition (ABD considered). State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.


Desired Qualifications: Priority will be given to applicants who have experience providing secondary transition services or related instruction to individuals with high- or low-incidence disabilities, university teaching experience, and an active research agenda.
