Job Description

The Produce Quality Assurance team member will contribute to our top corporate goals to ensure that Nicholas & Company is the first choice of our customers and team members. This individual is responsible for inspecting, approving or rejecting all inbound perishables, as well as the quality of outbound shipments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Quality check of inbound produce items
  • Acceptable temperatures, product conditions, product quality and product sizing
  • Communicate with the buyer all positive or negative information on all products received
  • Supply a written form on all products with a problem of quality, condition and temperature to our suppliers
  • Inspect all inbound and outbound produce to ensure quality
  • Inspect other inbound items as needed
  • Check quality of existing perishables in stock including
  • Daily inspection of product in pick location for quality, condition, and shelf life
  • Remove product that does not meet Nicholas & Co. standards (quality, condition, shelf life)
  • Communicate with all buyers about products to determine what action will be taken
  • Supply inventory control with a list of product removed from slots
  • Take charge of sorting all product for suitable resale
  • Watch for proper product rotation in pick slots
  • Alert buyer for product that is slow or not moving in a timely period
  • Check and approve all code dated product(s) as to their expiration date
  • Inspect product returned to warehouse facility
  • Determine the quality, condition, and acceptable shelf life of the product
  • Determine what is good, what is storable, and what needs to be disposed of
  • Of those items that have a definite quality problem, check existing product slot to determine status of existing inventory
  • Notify buyer of any on going pattern of either bad product or apparent customer abuse
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Procedures
  • Collecting and reporting temperature and other HACCP information from refrigerated areas to the Compliance Manager
  • Reporting any problem that would break down the integrity of the HACCP Program to the Compliance Manager

Requirements

• Two years' experience in produce preferred

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to navigate an iPad

• Attention to detail, self-motivated, and the ability to communicate and coordinate with others as a team player

• Ability to work in a variety of temperatures (cooler, freezer, dry)

• Ability to lift product weighing up to 45 lbs.

• Pallet Jack experience preferred

• Two years' experience in foodservice preferred

Must be able to perform essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately and safely, with or without reasonable accommodation and without creating threat or harm

Must comply with all company policies and procedures, as well as, state, federal and safety regulations
