I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Job Description Summary:

The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing and developing active-based learning options and assisting in the implementation and ongoing refinement of professional development programs based on identified client or organizational need. Utilizing appropriate approaches to instructional design such as ADDIE or SAM models, the primary responsibilities include the following:

Designing and developing instructional content, including identification of the most appropriate training platforms, which may include a blended approach to learning such as classroom training, coaching, action learning and e-learning.

Working with internal subject-matter experts to develop appropriate content for assigned program areas.

Developing learning objectives and designing appropriate content, learner activities, exercises, appropriate gamification, etc. to accomplish overall objectives using appropriate andragogical principles to maximize adult learning.

Developing, revising, maintaining and editing course materials, which may include facilitator and participant guides, presentation materials, handouts, or web-based training options.

Ensuring that course design is modeled after best practices and is reflective of input from all personnel involved with course development and implementation.

Developing and delivering train-the-trainer sessions, which focus on providing instruction on execution of designed learning solutions.

Attending designed pilot offerings and revising or modifying course content, objectives, etc., as needed in order to maximize effectiveness of the training solution.

Assisting in the preparation of analysis reports, development phase reports, implementation plans, evaluation reports, and revision reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in adult education, instructional technology or a related field and 3 years of work experience in instructional design. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Software Experience:

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required

Advanced understanding of the capabilities of PowerPoint required

Application Expertise (Experience with high-level course development tools like: Articulate Storyline, Captivate, Camtasia, Audacity, Soundforge and/or Lectora preferred; experience with more advanced development tools such as: Photoshop, Premiere, Flash, Director, and SharePoint preferred, HTML knowledge also preferred)

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Articulate 360, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Blackboard preferred.

Strong consultative skills, ability to interact with client to assess needs and develop appropriate training solutions.

Strong writing, research and editing skills and basic familiarity of standard style guides.

Knowledge of adult learning principles and the ability to apply principles of instructional design to developing learning solutions.

Ability to prioritize and complete tasks by assigned deadlines and keen attention to detail.

Competence in developing e-learning solutions and appropriate technology solutions relevant to course development

Demonstrated effectiveness in public speaking and interpersonal communications.
