Essential Job Duties: The Post Doc position, with guidance from the project's Principal and Co-principal investigators, will be responsible for (i) the design and implementation of a research and development strategy to perform genetic modification of specific yeast strains using CRISPR technology and (ii) pre-commercial development and optimization of a bioprocess based on use of these modified strains at the laboratory scale. The position will be responsible for carrying out all laboratory procedures associated with these tasks, including the use of HPLC for analyses and the operation of laboratory-scale bioreactors. The candidate will provide the project PI and Co-PIs with periodic reports, to include descriptions of experimental procedures, results and data analyses.
Department Required Skills: * PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline. * Laboratory experience with the techniques used for culturing of yeast and/or bacteria. * Demonstrated ability to work independently in a university laboratory environment. * Excellent written and oral communication.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Experience with the use of CRISPR technology for genetic modification of microbial cells and be familiar with the operation of HPLC systems and laboratory-scale bioreactors. * Experience in analysis of scientific messages across a variety of media platforms. * Project management experience.
