Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

At least 2 years work experience utilizing exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills, is required as noted below:

(1) Ability to learn and apply federal regulations, laws, policies and guidance in order to apply these as part of an IRB application review; (2) comfort in exercising independent discretion; (3)organization and time management skills to appropriately prioritize workload and with minimal supervision; (4) outstanding attention to detail; (5) ability to write in a clear and concise manner; (6) ability to communicate effectively with researchers and staff; (7) strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; (8) ability to work well as part of a team; (9) proficiency with computer applications including MS Word, Excel, internet browsers, and email; and (10) ability to build and maintain rapport with a diverse array of investigators and research support staff.

Preferred skills and competencies noted below.
Familiarity and/or experience working within an academic research setting, including an IRB office; knowledge of human subjects research; ability to create clear, concise analyses of complex materials; and working effectively with colleagues across a wide range of experience and leadership levels.



Position Summary:

The UW Health Sciences (HS) IRBs office includes a staff of 22 individuals with 13 Staff Reviewers, who handle initial submissions, changes of protocol, continuing reviews, and reportable events. We are currently seeking 2 Staff Reviewers to work with new IRB applications (initial reviews). Staff Reviewers independently conduct in-depth reviews of IRB applications and supporting materials to ensure a smooth review process as well as compliance with federal regulations, state law, and campus policies. Staff Reviewers create written, in-depth analyses of the studies and regulations as part of the overall review and determination processes. By working collaboratively with members of the study teams, regulatory staff, and administrative staff, the Staff Reviewers help address any issues with the potential to delay an IRB approval. Staff reviewers work under the supervision of and in collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director of the HS IRBs
