Job Summary:

The Department of Cell & Developmental Biology seeks a full-time Professional Research Assistant (PRA) in the laboratory of Dr. Wendy Macklin to work on cell signaling projects related to multiple sclerosis. This is a full time position located on the AMC campus in Aurora, CO. Working hours are typically 9:00 to 5:00 weekdays though some nights and weekends may be required per experimental needs. The PRA will be expected to work independently under the supervision of the principal investigator or laboratory manager in the performance and reporting of experiments.

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Animal husbandry of transgenic/mutant mouse, rat and zebrafish lines
  • Mouse handling (restraint, injections, gavage, surgeries, perfusions, and euthanasia)
  • Fresh and fixed tissue microdissections from rodents
  • Primary cell and tissue culture
  • Immunohistochemistry and image analysis
  • Protein preparation and Western Blot Analysis
  • DNA/RNA isolation and PCR/qPCR
  • Confocal and epifluorescence microscopy
  • Maintenance of a clear and concise laboratory notebook record
  • General lab maintenance and ordering will be shared with other PRAs.

Minimum Qualifications:

BS in neuroscience, cell biology, molecular biology or other scientific discipline appropriate to the job.

Preferred Qualifications:

Laboratory experience in molecular biology, tissue culture, and microscopy is preferred but not necessary.

Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and abilities:

The applicant must have experience with techniques in rodent handling. Excellent record keeping ability, communication skills, and ability to take direction, adhere to established protocols, work independently and multi-task.
