Job Purpose
The SciTech Department at Towson University is currently accepting applications for an Education and Outreach Specialist to teach and deliver bioscience outreach programs to students and teachers, develop new activities and update existing activities. This position is located at the Towson University Center for STEM Excellence ( in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, and not on Towson's main campus.

The Education and Outreach Specialist will teach students at the SciTech Student Learning Lab and adults at teacher professional development workshops. They will research, develop, and write new curriculum and activities; revise current lab activities and modules; assist customers in choosing appropriate lab activity for all education and outreach programs; act as lead for lab assistant(s) to ensure all kits are prepared and shipped by appropriate dates; assess kits for integrity of equipment and reagents; assign work, direct activities, and answer questions for lab assistants.

Bachelor's degree in a science field and at least two years informal or formal teaching at the K-12 level and/or work in a bioscience laboratory environment; knowledge of Maryland State K-12 Curriculum and Next Generation Science Standards and basic bioscience concepts; ability to work effectively as a member of team; ability to teach in a student-centered, inquiry-based manner; strong organizational and communication skills; and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
