Under the direction of the Director and in coordination with Assist. Directors/Licensing Assoc., the Business Development Manager evaluates intellectual property; coordinates startup company formation; and assists in transfer of Physical Sciences technologies to industry partners or newly formed startup companies.

Prepares market assessments for new inventions and current intellectual property portfolio, including evaluation of novelty, market potential, and likely commercialization path.

Leads preparation, presentation, and review of intellectual property cases for Technology Commercialization Committee meetings; coordinates review and approval of Committee’s recommendations.

Assists with preparation of technology summaries to advertise technologies available for licensing.

Coordinates with Licensing Associates to identify potential start-up opportunities.

Coordinates with inventors and Licensing Associates to generate a summary of the business opportunity.

Provides professional business advisory services to entrepreneurs seeking to commercialize university technology.

Coordinates with staff in the Office of Research & Commercialization regarding business plan formation, recruiting CTO and CEO positions, and opportunities for financing.

Identifies and coordinates contact with a broad range of potential funding sources that are relevant to
commercialization of university technologies.

Represents the university and the Office of Research & Commercialization to the business and entrepreneur
community in Physical Sciences-related matters.

Liaises with industry, academia and non-profit collaborators, and grows the relationships with the investment
community and entrepreneurs.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.

Preferred qualifications:

Doctoral degree in electrical engineering and 3 years of business development experience. Broad technical expertise in Physical Sciences and experience in business formation and operations.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
