Duties: The Clinical Research Budget Manager will be responsible for managing the development and negotiation of clinical trial budgets, acting as a resource and assisting budget analysts/business administrators in determining financial feasibility for each study and ensuring that all costs for a study are appropriately and accurately reflected in the study budget. In addition, the position determines, with input from the Principal Investigators and study coordinators, the proper allocation of items and services between routine costs and research costs and establishes guidance to bill accordingly. The Clinical Research Budget Manager works with the applicable clinical department and Principal Investigator to optimize cost recovery for Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM), coding study services and applying all applicable local and national coverage decisions and third-party payer rules. The position interfaces with various PSOM clinical departments, administrative staff, Principal Investigators, and clinical trial sponsors regarding reimbursement for research services.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of experience in administrative analysis or operations research or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Education/training in clinical research conduct, administration or coordination and/or clinical research budgeting, financial management, and/or coding experience ; Proficiency with medical terminology ; Knowledge of Medicare coverage decisions, benefit policy manuals and billing processes; Familiarity with different types of clinical research and the drug development process; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Computer proficient - must have strong Excel, Word, presentation, and database skills; Ability to effectively collaborate with multiple departments and a strong team work ethic; Ability to work independently with self-motivation and initiative; Strong organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail; Knowledge of regulatory, financial and administrative requirements of third party billing for clinical trials.
