Job Description Summary
Southwestern Michigan College, a two-year college located approximately 30 minutes north of South Bend, Indiana, and approximately 30 minutes from Lake Michigan’s eastern shore is seeking an ETS Middle/High School Tutor who is dedicated, enthusiastic and excited to work with low income first generation middle and high school students.

The ETS Middle/High School Tutor/Mentor works to guide students through middle and high school and onto a post-secondary education. The ETSMiddle/High School Tutor/Mentor will be under direct supervision of the ETSDirector and ETS Tutor/Mentor Coordinator/Advisor. The ETS Middle/High School Tutor/Mentor is responsible for assisting middle or high school students to reach their full academic potential and achieve academic success.

The ETSMiddle/High School Tutor will serve students in target Cass County schools. Responsibilities include but not limited to: providing participants with both individual and group tutorial sessions, homework assistance to improve grades and GPA, and instruction/tutoring for standardized assessments.

In addition, the ETS Middle/High School Tutor/Mentor will maintain appropriate records of hours and teaching notes.

Up to 5 hours per week

Required Qualifications
Associate’s Degree with 3.0 or better in the subject to be tutored.

Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Math or related tutoring subject
• Coursework toward math degree acceptable
• Teaching experience with middle and high school students preferred

Other Information
This is an academic year position only; there are no summer hours.

Candidates should have the ability to assess needs of students and prepare written documentation; ability to be a positive role model; ability to establish rapport and build relationships; ability to set expectations and boundaries; ability to facilitate, teach, or instruct; excellent listening and interpersonal skills; excellent problem solving skills and good judgment; knowledge of reading and math fundamentals; knowledge or tutoring or teaching techniques; and knowledge of working with disadvantaged and underrepresented youth.

Candidates will not be compensated for drive time to schools or be compensated mileage.
