Department Overview
The Center for Human Identification was created in 2004, formally integrating the efforts of the Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology and the Laboratory for Molecular Identification. In addition to providing investigators with important information regarding cases, the anthropological data are used to refine molecular analyses within the CODIS system. This collaboration has created a unique resource for the identification of missing persons and unidentified remains, and is available to law enforcement agencies and medicolegal entities charged with the investigation of death across the nation. Additional support is also available to agencies through the Center's Forensic Services Unit.

Position Details
The Center for Human Identification Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Forensic Analyst to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

* Evidence examination including written and photographic evidence documentation and serological testing for blood and semen.
* DNA extraction, quantification, amplification and capillary electrophoresis.
* Analysis and interpretation of DNA data.
* Calculation of inclusionary statistics and report generation.
* Technical review and administrative review of peer casework.
* Maintenance and performance check verifications on instrumentation.
* Expert witness testimony.
* Maintaining proficiency by completing two external proficiency tests per year as required by the federal Quality Assurance Standards for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* BA/BS in Biology, Chemistry or related Forensic Science Discipline with nine credit hours of college coursework in molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry.
* Coursework or training in statistics and/or population genetics.
* Prior employment within a forensic DNA laboratory.
* Prior experience in Forensic DNA analysis procedures including DNA extraction, quantification, amplification and capillary electrophoresis.
* Prior experience in STR DNA data analysis, interpretation, statistical calculations and reporting with an emphasis on DNA mixture interpretation and reporting.
