Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The applied research project that this position will be involved with is focused on partnering with local soul food restaurants to deliver a dietary intervention aimed at reducing cardiovascular disease risk and promoting weight loss among African American adults. Two diets will be examined in the study: 1) traditional low-fat soul food diet and 2) plant-based (vegan) soul food diet.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Master's degree in related field and 1 year related experience, or bachelor's degree in related field and 3 years related experience.

Experience with health behavior, physical activity, or nutrition research is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Clinical/Research experience. Previous experience working with diverse populations.
Experience developing intervention and health promotion materials is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of nutrition, particularly various therapeutic diets for weight loss and cardiovascular disease prevention. Ability to work as part of a research team, closely coordinate with community partners and staff, and time management are essential to this position. Ability to meet deadlines, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to work with minimal supervision.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and excellent time-management, communication, and organizational skills are required. Must have the ability to multi-task and work efficiently under time pressure while maintaining high quality of work. Must show careful attention to detail and ability to follow-through on assignments independently. Flexibility required because the work schedule may vary. Must have the ability to maintain poise and exercise good judgment at all times when interacting with the public. Excellent writing skills are required. Understanding of the need for research rigor, adherence to a research protocol, and strict attention to timelines and documentation are essential. She/he must be highly organized, professional, personable, flexible, and a team player. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
