The Associate Academic Advisor position in the Klein College of Media and Communication works under the regular guidance of more experienced advising staff in the Academic Advising Center. Provides academic support by working closely with students and records. The Associate Advisor helps to advise students concerning schedules, majors, hours, warning and/or probation, and helps to disseminate information regarding curriculum requirements, academic policies, and other related issues as they arise. The incumbent also directs students to appropriate referrals with other advising staff and/or other resources and services available throughout the University community, and participates regularly in meetings to discuss academic and professional goals. The Associate Advisor will help to prepare and present new student orientation sessions, and assist with course selections and registration activities and will assist with or teach a section of Klein Freshman Seminar. Coordination of the Klein Change of Program group advising sessions. Will be responsible for responding to messages that come in to Klein's general advising email (along with the other Associate Advisor). Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience, preferably in an academic setting in higher education or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills and Abilities:
*Ability to learn, understand and interpret a highly complex curriculum.
*Ability to balance multiple tasks and provide appropriate follow-up services.
*Effective oral and written communication skills.
*Willingness to learn and familiarity with a variety of software applications.
*Student-centered approach that is positive and forward-looking.
*Demonstrated continuous improvement orientation. Preferred:
*Advanced training and/or coursework towards advanced degree.
