RESEARCH FELLOW, Thompson Lab, Physical Therapy & Athletic Training, Sargent College, (9820/H2417)
This position is to direct and coordinate the technical and non-technical aspects of laboratory work, perform independent lab studies on skeletal muscle, and support the ongoing biomedical research in the Thompson Laboratory within Sargent College’s Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training. The individual works closely with undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. The individual must have a good understanding of the scientific method in terms of developing, designing and conducting research projects with proper control, including planning new procedures, adapting existing procedures to the needs of the project, and making contributions to methodology.
Responsibilities include but are not necessarily limited to; manage the ordering, tracking and organizing of lab supplies, oversee laboratory safety, manage inventories, provide support for scheduled meetings or seminars, external collaboration with vendors, basic laboratory maintenance, and reporting in a timely and accurate manner.
General cellular and molecular laboratory techniques (e.g., Western Blot, immunoprecipitation, RT-PCR), histology and immunohistochemistry, and mouse husbandry and handling. In addition, the position could include independent work pursuing several research projects using advanced techniques, such as muscle and single skeletal muscle fiber physiology. Scientific responsibilities include collecting, recording and analyzing data, conducting literature reviews, and participate in IACUC submissions, writing reports, posters and manuscripts. Some teaching opportunities may be available within the lab.
Master's degree and 3 years’ experience required. Must have direct experience with the cellular and molecular techniques mentioned above. Must also have proficiency in Excel and statistical analyses software.
This individual must work well with others, communicate well and have a high personal standard of professionalism. Position is contingent upon the availability of funding and carries an initial appointment term of one year which is renewable.
