Executive Director of Advising
Valdosta State University seeks candidates for the position of Executive Director of Advising. This is a full-time, benefited position reporting to the Vice President for Student Success. The Executive Director of Advising is responsible for providing visionary leadership within Centralized Advising Center and Academic Advising within colleges across the campus.
Valdosta State University believes that strong academic advising is central to student success, particularly for the large population of first-generation students and low-income students who attend VSU. Overseeing a team of professional advisors serving all of VSU’s programs in five academic units, the director will have primary responsibility to ensure that the quality and effectiveness of the academic advising program fully embrace VSU’s mission, values, and strategic goals.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: coordinate oversight and management of primarily Centralized Advising, academic advising by college, manage faculty/staff advising loads; analyze advising-related data to inform decision-making about tools and technologies for advising and retention efforts; plan and facilitate New Adviser Training and on-going professional development for faculty and staff advisors; develop effective advising evaluation and assessment systems; explore sub-models for specialized advising, group advising, first-year advising, etc. and follow through with implementation and evaluation as appropriate; collaborate with Student Success staff on retention/academic success programs, coordinate advising aspects of Pre-Orientation and Orientation Week; and maintain a caseload of advisees.
