The University of Florida is seeking applicants for the position of Associate Controller for Payroll and Tax Services. This key leadership position directs a high performance team of payroll and tax professionals who provide service to a large and highly complex university. UF Payroll and Tax Services, a department of the Office of the Controller, ensures both compliance and confidence while paying over 27,000 individuals biweekly for an annual gross payroll of more than $1.8 billion. Through respect, diligence, impeccable customer service, and effective communication, UF Payroll and Tax Services supports faculty, staff and students in achieving individual and institutional goals.
You will oversee staff and processes relating to payroll and tax processing, such as recording and reporting; time and labor; payroll-related vendor payments; garnishments; direct deposit; tax treatment of foreign persons, fringe benefit pool reconciliation; wage refund calculations and collections; tax research; and audit support. Relying on extensive PeopleSoft knowledge, you will communicate frequently with UF departments, administrators, auditors and external agencies on payroll and tax transactions and commitment accounting. You will engage regularly with Academic Personnel, Human Resources, Student Employment, the International Center, General Accounting, Financial Reporting, UFIT, and other UF departments on processing issues, problem resolution, and future development. Moreover, you will develop and implement related policies, procedures and training and serve on campus committees.Advertised Salary:
$95,000 - $125,000; commensurate with education and experience.Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience.Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Public Accountant
- Experience with payroll processing in a large and complex organization
- Extensive knowledge of and experience interpreting payroll and tax laws, rules and regulations
- PeopleSoft HRMS/HCM experience
- Experience with non-payroll tax matters, including unrelated business income tax and sales & use tax
- Track record of effective team leadership and development
