Assistant ControllerJob Description:
This position, located in Finance and Accounting, General Accounting & Financial Reporting, serves as
Assistant Controller. This position supervises two Accountant III positions and reports to the
Associate Controller. The primary responsibility of this position is to supervise the preparation and
distribution of various University financial reports, including but not limited to the University's Annual
Financial Report, the Quarterly Financial Statements for the Board of Trustees (BOT), other monthly,
quarterly, and year-end reports.
Additionally, this position provides guidance to various departments and component units in matters of accounting and financial reporting.
This position also provides guidance to Finance and Accounting in matters of accounting and financial reporting.
The successful candidate must possess an extensive knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, particularly those of colleges/universities and fund accounting. He/she must also possess good analytical and research skills, the ability to effectively communicate with various management levels University wide and the ability to plan and coordinate the completion of complex tasks with accounting personnel from all areas of the University and its 30 component units. He/she also works with NACUBO guidelines and the ICOFA Accounting Principles sub-committee to implement new requirements into the Automated Financial Statements system. He/she must also possess the ability to effectively learn and comprehend how the University's PeopleSoft financial accounting system operates and can be utilized.Advertised Salary:
$70,000 - $85,000; commensurate with education and experience.Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.Preferred Qualifications:
Licensure as a State of Florida Certified Public Accountant strongly preferred, but not required.
This position requires a strong knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, specifically as these principles relate to college and university technical accounting, fund accounting and financial reporting.
This position requires a comprehensive knowledge of the PeopleSoft financial accounting system, and proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Word and Internet Browsers.
Excellent communication skills are required as well as the ability to work with individuals at multiple levels.
Must display a positive attitude and be a team player – must be able to thrive in a collaborative environment.
Applicant should be familiar with PeopleSoft or other ERP systems.
Must have the ability to understand various business processes and translate them into technical solutions.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
