The division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) includes four major areas: Advancement Services, Development, Alumni Relations, and the Career Development Center. As a part of DAR, the Associate Director works in the Office of Prospect Research and Management (OPRM) team and is responsible for prospect research and management activities.

The focus of prospect management is the planning, recording and reporting of significant moments in the relationships between prospects and the University, which ultimately may lead to an annual, planned and/or major gift. Prospect research focuses on the identification and review of prospects through wealth analysis to find the best prospects who most likely have both capacity to give and affinity to support the University.

This position reports to the Director, Research and Prospect Management.

Job Duties:

Prospect Pool/Base Analysis
* Designs constituent and prospect segmentation strategies and analysis.
* Analyzes and projects future fundraising progress based on capacity, penetration, and activity of the prospect pool.
* Employs descriptive statistics and knowledge of the prospect pool to make recommendations for campaign planning including scales of giving, strength of prospect pool, etc.
* Applies business intelligence tools (such as Tableau) to help transform raw data into meaningful and useful information to aid in the development of fundraising and campaign strategies.

Relationship Management Policy
* Works with the Director to determine and establish goals, priorities, initiatives, policies, and procedures for relationship management that align with the DAR goals.
* Applies appropriate business rules to the organization's practices for consistent data collection that reflects relationship activity, stages, and engagement.
* Interprets policy to apply to real-life situations.
* Audits the prospect management system for anomalies in order to maintain data integrity and measure end user accountability.
* Mediates assignment disagreements and escalates disagreements for mediation according to policy.
* Communicates data procedures through writing, speaking, and training.

Relationship Management Database Management Reporting
* Works with stakeholders and information technology staff to realize information management objectives.
* Masters the use of word processing, spreadsheets, and database software for delivery and presentation of information.
* Interprets data and draws meaningful conclusions to inform fundraising operations.
* Provides insight and analysis of metrics and movement for fundraisers/departments to managers and leadership to inform decision making and management.

Pipeline Management
* Works with managers to shape metrics used to measure pipeline growth and performance.
* Oversees discovery and active pipeline management.
* Collaborates with leadership, frontline development officers, and volunteers on pipeline management and activity.
* Designs and produces reports, pyramids, and gift tables that show pipeline stages of readiness.
* Identifies issues with the pipeline and contributes solutions and strategies to support the maturation of the pipeline management program.

Fundraiser Performance
* Arms leadership with fundraiser performance data to drive operational decision making.
* Reports out on performance to various levels of management, according to set fundraiser metrics.
* Presents organizational performance in aggregate, highlighting performance both above and below standard.
* Analyzes top performers to identify patterns of consistency and behaviors that appear to drive success.
* Uses data analysis to recommend performance metric refinements with leadership.

* Takes the lead on special projects as needed (e.g. principal gifts financial research).
* Presents information to colleagues at meetings.
* Develops and maintains effective relationships with internal clients and collaborators across the University-wide development community to deliver the program and achieve program goals.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree
* Prior experience in prospect management and/or a quantitative discipline such as finance or statistics
* Basic statistical ability and capacity to acquire more skills
* Experience using online technology/software including Microsoft Office Suite, database functions/reporting, and ability to learn new programs/databases such as Blackbaud CRM, Tableau, etc.
* Familiarity with standard references sources for basic biographic and financial research
* Demonstrates critical thinking and analytical skills with ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy in a high volume work environment

The Associate Director demonstrates organizational and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality inside and outside of DAR. S/he also demonstrates an ability to function independently yet relate comfortably to a multifaceted fundraising environment, participating in and contributing to a total team effort.

Other Requirements:
This position requires occasional evening and weekend work to support DAR's signature events including significant blocks of time during the weekend events.

Preferred Qualifications:
* In-depth knowledge and experience using and applying analytical software, database management system software, database reporting software, database user interface, and query software, and data mining software
* Advanced statistical ability/capacity to acquire more skills
* Demonstrated ability to produce data in a clear and understandable manner
* Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to take the lead on projects and with user/clients
