Job Summary/Description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry seeks an individual who will be responsible for management of the chemical stockroom, organization of undergraduate student workers, ordering for the department, maintenance of the chemical inventory for the department, and routine instrument maintenance including monitoring and filling the cryogens in the nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer (the NMR).

Typical Duties/Job Duties

Duties will include: maintaining chemical stocks, glassware and equipment necessary for laboratory courses in the Department Chemistry, supervision of student workers for the department. The stockroom manager will be responsible for the maintenance of the chemical inventory database for the department. The stockroom manager will actively participate in ordering of chemicals and supplies for the department, will perform routine instrument maintenance, and will perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of chemistry and laboratory techniques sufficient to support the laboratories is a must. Proficiency with standard personal computer usage necessary. The ability to accurately prepare chemical solutions and to teach others to do so is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of bachelors degree in chemistry or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with maintenance of NMR spectrometers. Experience with other chemical instruments, including but not limited to, IR, UV-VIS, HPLC, gas chromatographs, or fluorometers.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform routine office duties and preparations and stocking for the teaching laboratories.
