I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development is responsible for the appointment, employment, advancement, and professional development of faculty of the School of Medicine & Health Sciences.

The Center for Faculty Excellence provides service and support for faculty with respect to teaching and learning skill development; education scholarship (including a formal Academy of Education Scholars and an annual research grant program); leadership development (including the Master Teacher leadership Development Program as well as other programs), and Mentoring.
The Center for Faculty Excellence- Research Enhancement Specialist provides direct support to faculty in designing, implementing and publishing education research, including preparing IRB materials and internal and external funding requests.

Duties Include:
-Provide consultative assistance to faculty regarding the design, funding, approval and implementation of research studies. This includes assistance identifying possible topics and funding sources; conducting appropriate literature searches; identifying a clear research question/hypothesis; aligning data collection and analysis methods and procedures to ensure validity/trustworthiness, and preparing IRB and funding applications.

-Support the Academy of Education Scholars. This includes assisting with the initial development of the Academy; facilitating member to member communications; suggesting meeting topics and recruiting speakers; identifying, contracting for and monitoring research support services (i.e.: statistical analysis, professional transcription, professional manuscript editing) provided to Academy members, and tracking member productivity.

-Develop Center-sponsored research initiatives that support the vision & direction of SMHS. This includes topics, funding and research plan development and implementation.

-Establish, maintain and promote education research materials. This includes material physically located in the Center as well as on the Faculty Development website.

-This position performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

-A Master's degree in Education or a related field with coursework in research design, advanced level qualitative and quantitative methods, adult learning and instructional design. EdD or PhD preferred.
-A minimum of 5 years of work experience in a healthcare academic setting with responsibilities directly related to research design and implementation.
-Experience working with faculty on their research projects preferred.
-Ability to work with minimal direction; shows initiative and is an experienced problem solver; possesses strong organizational skill to ensure that work is completed according to schedule.
-Evidence of providing excellent customer service using discretion and tact.
-Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
