FIRE SAFETY INSPECTOR I
Job Summary This position answers directly to the University of Georgia Manager of Fire Safety and must fulfill all the requirements of a Fire Safety Inspector In-Training prior to being elevated to the Fire Safety Inspector I position. The Fire Safety Inspector I position is required to work in close cooperation with the University of Georgia Manager of Fire Safety and the State of Georgia State Fire Marshal's Office in the review and implementation of the State's Minimum Fire Safety Standards. In collaboration with their manager, the incumbent will work to continuously improve business processes, procedures and practices through qualitative and quantitative performance metrics, while supporting a culture of safety and compliance. They must possess excellent communication skills that will embrace this role which is responsible for the hands-on implementation of the basic Fire Safety Standards. A Fire Safety Inspector I is responsible for inspection of existing building structures, and the University as a whole, for compliance with the State of Georgia Minimum Fire Safety Standards (State Code 120-3-3), the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Life Safety Code, the International Code Council's (ICC) International Fire Code and all other applicable codes and regulations. The incumbent is responsible for the inspection of building renovation projects and new construction, and issuance of "hot work" and "fireworks and pyrotechnic" permits. The Fire Safety Inspector I will also provide University departments with general recommendations and guidance for improving fire safety standards, and assist departments with resolving structural and non-structural code violations, accompany the State Fire Marshal during official visits and maintain a comprehensive building file system. This person will assist with Fire Safety training and development, emergency pre-planning, and perform other duties as assigned by the Fire Safety Manager. The Fire Safety Inspector I must also provide written reports in a professional manner, submit a weekly report of activities to the Fire Safety Manager, and must be proficient in the use of basic computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office applications. Minimum Qualifications Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or two years college course work and a minimum of one year experience or graduation from accredited university/college with one year related experience. License and Certification required: Driver's license required, and ability to successfully complete a recognized safety inspection certification program.
