The Executive Medical Director (EMD) is a seasoned physician executive with an outstanding track record of achieving key strategic initiatives and evaluating new opportunities that further the transformative goals of healthcare organizations. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the clinical strategies of the University of North Texas Health Science Center Clinical Practice Group doing business as UNTHealth. The EMD participates in long-range strategic planning and short-range implementation to ensure practice sites are managed in a consistent manner, embracing person, patient and family-centered ambulatory service standards and efficient operational processes that support service excellence. This individual will be a key collaborator with the UNTHSC colleges, schools, institutes and departments as a thought leader in ambulatory quality and safety, coordination of care across the continuum and use of technological tools and solutions, metrics reporting, customer service and process improvement. The EMD provides clinical leadership and oversight for designated operational and practice management activities within the UNTHSC Clinical Practice Group. The EMD assumes a key leadership role in patient care services and operations across the clinical enterprise, collaborating effectively with physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, nurses, technician and other non-clinical support staff. As a strategic partner, this position leads the actualization of the UNTHSC "One University" interprofessional clinical practice for faculty, trainees, students and UNT Health patients. Using value-based leadership and inclusive contemporary approaches, the EMD will help support UNT Health's successful transformation from fee-for-service to value-based care, medical home, team-based care, population management and innovative payment models. This position reports to the UNT Health President/Chief Medical Officer and provides leadership and focus to assigned departments and staff leaders to align them with operational and strategic goals of UNT Health and the approved business and financial plans of UNTHSC. This position is responsible for daily clinical faculty provider management of the UNT Health Clinical Practice Group that support the educational departments and faculty practice of the UNTHSC schools, colleges and institutes. Included in the EMD responsibilities are clinical program development, coordination of clinical budgets, revenue cycle, clinical funds flow in support of the clinical and academic missions, contracting, faculty practice administrative services, coordination of departmental compensation plans, workforce/recruitment planning and implementation of new clinical programs and services. The EMD will work collaboratively as the physician executive partner to the UNT Health Vice President of Clinical Operations and each will have joint reporting relationships and budgetary accountability to the UNT Health President/Chief Medical Officer. The EMD will work closely with the clinical departmental leadership and faculty, to ensure optimal staffing, smooth operation of the call center, pre-authorization and scheduling, ambulatory space allocation, service levels and use of information technology across ambulatory practices.
