Golden West College President 

The President is responsible to the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees for providing an intellectually and culturally stimulating learning environment for Golden West College's diverse student population; providing enriching and innovative educational programs that help students meet their individual goals; providing visionary and dynamic leadership in the overall administration of the college; developing and implementing the district and college strategic plan. The President is committed to academic excellence, community engagement, and student success through continuous assessment and improvement of student learning and institutional effectiveness.

External Experience and Leadership

Understands the California community college policy, regulatory, legal, political, and accreditation environments; has relevant management experience in navigating such issues.

• Is committed to being an integral part of Golden West College's external environment, both as an individual and a college representative, in advancing the success of students and effectively marketing the College; is an advocate for the College in pursuing political and regulatory initiatives, beneficial and innovative partnerships with business, educational entities and other governmental agencies, public and private community support, and external resource development through pursuit of grant funding and a productive institutional foundation.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Master's degree from an accredited institution and one year of formal training, internship or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment.

• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and employees.

• A combination of education and experience that is at least equivalent to the above.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

An earned Doctorate from an accredited institution of higher learning.

• At least five years of demonstrated and responsible administrative experience, preferably in a higher education environment, with a broad variety of instructional and student services programs, and physical, fiscal and technology resources.

• At least three years of experience managing a multi-million dollar budget in higher education.

• Experience in a shared governance and demonstrated understanding of collective bargaining in California higher education.

• Experience in and/or demonstrated knowledge of the role of the community colleges in economic and workforce development.

• At least three years full-time classroom teaching or student service experience, preferably at the collegiate level.

 

Conditions of Employment

Start Date: July 1, 2018

 

Pay Philosophy: Movement to the next step placement is contingent on receiving a satisfactory performance evaluation AND a recommendation by the Chancellor.  An annual stipend of $3,000 is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution.

 

The District provides medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee. The District also provides an annual mileage stipend of $3,480 for this executive level position.

• Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.
