The College of Information and Computer Sciences was created in 2015 and is rapidly building on the foundation of our strong computer science program. POSITION:

The College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Associate Professor level in the broad area of information retrieval, digital libraries, human-computer interaction, or social computing. Exceptional candidates at other ranks may be considered. The position is part of a new initiative to develop a top-quality information science or informatics program based on our highly-rated computer science program.


 
STARTING DATE:

September 1, 2018

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The candidate is expected to build a nationally recognized research group and provide leadership in the formation of a new information science program in the college, including developing and teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. We are also interested in candidates who would explore partnerships with the University Library, based on their existing expertise in applied information management, organization, and preservation.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related area and should show evidence of exceptional research capability. Experience related to broader aspects of information science, human factors, or applied computing that will assist in the development of the new program preferred. Examples of specific research areas of interest for this position include information retrieval, web search, NLP, HCI, social computing, information visualization, human computation and crowdsourcing, game design, recommender systems, digital archiving and preservation, digital libraries, economics of information, digital media, digital humanities, and health informatics.
