Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NCSU Libraries serves as the gateway to recorded knowledge and information for the NC State University community and its partners. Ranking 27th out of 113 top academic research libraries in North America, the Libraries offers NC State a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining the best faculty and students to the university. The Acquisitions & Discovery Department supports the teaching and research program of the University by providing searchable metadata for the more than 5 million volumes and more than 100,000 print and electronic journal subscriptions purchased by the NCSU Libraries and thus preserving the intellectual integrity of the libraries' collections.

Essential Job Duties: The University Library Technician in this position supports the electronic resources life-cycle for the Libraries' major journal packages. Duties including monitoring all journal package activities and collaborating with the unit head, specialist, and serials staff to ensure these activities are completed. Package life-cycle activities include tracking changes to titles and packages; reconciling title lists across multiple sources; assisting with renewal processes; verifying ongoing access; and maintaining informational and workflow documentation. In addition, the incumbent will participate in regular acquisitions and cataloging duties for package and non-package materials, including ordering, invoicing, receiving/access, description, and troubleshooting. The incumbent participates as needed in short- and long-term projects undertaken by the Serials Unit and the Department.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Department Required Skills: * Computing skills including familiarity across operating systems and fluency with all office applications * Strong attention to detail, time-management, and organizational skills * Very good written and oral communication skills * Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships * Ability to work independently as well as part of a team * Strong problem-solving skills * Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, high-demand environment * Ability to meet high service standards in all interactions (in-person, by telephone, via e-mail or online) * Demonstrated ability to locate, analyze, and interpret data contained in complex online systems * Ability to interpret and explain a wide variety of policies and procedures, varying from basic to complex, to internal customers, and to exercise independent judgment * Ability to work with multiple, complex systems

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * At least two years of college coursework * Knowledge of serials acquisitions and cataloging procedures for electronic resource packages * Experience planning, organizing, and facilitating workflows
