Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

The Electrician supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University facilities. Electricians perform work of moderate difficulty which involves repairing, installing, connecting, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment in buildings.

Electricians are not to work on any voltage exceeding 600 volts.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Working knowledge of the standard practices, materials, and processors of the electrical trade; of the design, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and of the National Electric Code.
2. Working skills in the use of the tools and instruments used to install and maintain electrical equipment.
3. Demonstrated ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations; to lay out work details; and to interpret and work from blueprints.
4. Ability to work nights and weekends on an as needed basis during emergencies. Ability to work an adjusted schedule as needed to meet deadlines.
