Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field is preferred.



Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Minimum of five years of professional work experience in human resources. Experience working within a University environment required; University of Wisconsin experience preferred. The position requires significant knowledge of and the ability to apply human resources and employment theory, law and practice to create a work environment that supports the development of successful programs.

Demonstrated knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations, human resources information systems. Knowledgeable of EEO and labor laws.

Excellent communications skills, oral and written required. Must be well organized and able to manage multiple projects. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute effectively to a workgroup with outstanding persuasive, negotiation, and motivational skills.

Must be positive and have a customer service-oriented approach to working with faculty and staff. Proactive and proficient ability to diagnose problems and identify appropriate solutions. Ability to gain acceptance from others in sensitive situations. Ability to provide leadership, work collaboratively on teams, and consult effectively and independently. Effectively share creative and innovative ideas to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of services.



Position Summary:

The Assistant Dean for Human Resources (Faculty) is a key leadership position, which reports to the Director of Human Resources in the College of Letters and Sciences. The College of Letters and Science has responsibility for 40 departments, 5 professional schools and approximately 50 interdisciplinary centers and programs. This position directs and coordinates all faculty personnel activities (for a designated group of departments/units) involving recruitment, hiring, review of probationary periods, progress toward tenure, salary determination and review, sabbaticals, faculty development, post-tenure review, retirements, resignations and terminations as well as a myriad of other complex issues. This position functions as the primary liaison between the College and the Office of Human Resources (OHR) as well as the Secretary of the Faculty's Office for all faculty personnel matters.
