Advise and provide student services to Honors Program students. The University Honors Program is comprised of approximately 3,000 academically gifted students. The Advisor will be responsible for advising honors students on such issues as course selection, academic support, scholarly opportunities, senior clearance, junior / senior thesis projects and other academic related issues. Advisor must be comfortable working with students from every class year and be able to manage a large advising load that may span across a few colleges. Advisor should have an understanding of student needs and possess a student centered approach when interacting with students. The Advisor will also assist the Director to develop and execute a plan to assess the Program's role in promoting learning and development among University Honors students.
The advisor will also play an integral role in the University Honors Programs and events such as student recruitment, new student orientation, Welcome Week activities for incoming Honors students, mentoring Honors Living Learning Communities, preparing upperclass students for leadership roles, and other initiatives as needed. There are some weekend and evening hours required in this position to support programming.
Masters Degree in education or related field required and up to 2 years previous work experience in higher education required; advising experience desirable. Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Computer skills, experience working with database software / website maintenance desirable.
Ability to prioritize tasks and work collaboratively.
Experience working directly with students and providing excellent student programming opportunities highly desired.
