Summary of the Position

Bentley University offers a variety of courses and programs in Web-extended hybrid format, where students have a choice of attending their classes on campus or synchronously via Web collaboration software such as Saba, GoToMeeting, Adobe Connect, etc. In these courses, student Teaching Assistants (TAs) provide technology support for faculty to ensure that online and in-class students receive a comparable learning experience. Working as a member of the hybrid team, the Instructional Technologist supports the use of technology in the classroom and works closely with faculty, administration, and students. He/she hires, trains and manages the student workers as well as provides daily hybrid/online program management – scheduling student workers, providing on-campus evening technology and A/V support (e.g., 1pm to 9pm), monitoring of hybrid classes for quality control, overseeing TAs and Senior TAs (STAs) office duties and daily tasks, etc. This is a full-time evening position; occasionally may require some weekend hours.

Essential Functions

Provide research and support for teaching through virtual classroom platforms that include web conferencing software and related classroom technologies (audio, video, electronic whiteboards, etc.).

Collaborate effectively with members of the hybrid team to provide a high quality learning experience for online students.

Support faculty with technology and instructional design.

Interview, hire, train and manage students - a minimum of 30 Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Senior Teaching Assistants (STAs).

Mentor TAs in their roles as well as groom them to move into senior level positions.

Schedule TAs and STAs for classes, non-course events, and online training for new online students.

Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the program including STA and TA office duties and daily tasks (i.e. hybrid email box and phone help line monitoring, scheduling, checklists). Manage the monitoring of classes delivered online to ensure quality control.

Working closely with the Classroom Presentation Technologies (CPT) group, provide on-campus evening support in the office and as needed in the classrooms.

Conduct online training and support as needed for online students. This may also include occasional support in the classroom.
Organize logistics of scheduling non-course events. This includes detailed communication with the requestor and participants; selection of appropriate software, location and support personnel; conduct orientation for remote participants.

Assist with updates to training documentation and website as needed.

Minimum Qualifications(Education and Experience Requirements)

- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years experience managing students or equivalent.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; excellent organizational skills.
- Commitment to customer service and team-oriented management; ability to work collaboratively within an academic community.
- Ability to handle high pressure situations calmly, efficiently, and in a professional manner.
Technical requirements:
- Conceptual understanding of audio/visual tools; experience with online collaboration tools such as Google Apps, Office 365; experience with web conferencing tools such as GoToMeeting, Skype

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant Masters Degree
3-5 years experience managing students or equivalent
Experience with academic technologies
Knowledge of equipment and innovative technologies to support on campus/online “extended classroom” courses.)
Experience with Blackboard Learning Management System

Physical Demands

Physical Demands: Ability to move quickly between buildings and building levels to provide support in different classrooms and offices.
