Job Description Summary:
Founded in 1987 and located in the heart of Washington, DC, GW's Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM) is the first and foremost school of applied politics, communications, and advocacy, offering master's degrees in the following disciplines: Legislative Affairs, Political Management, Strategic Public Relations, and Political Communication and Strategic Governance (this final degree program is targeted to students from Latin America and is offered in the Spanish language). We provide a hands-on education, not a theoretical exploration. Our students know what they want to do to change the world; we teach them how to use the strategies and tactics needed to do it. Our faculty members are recognized industry leaders and bring the best practices of the field into the classroom. Housed within GW's College of Professional Studies (CPS), GSPM programs are delivered in flexible formats: face-to-face, online, or a blend of both and provide credentials for the workforce that uphold the University's rigorous standards of academic excellence and respond to the needs of today's professionals.
GSPM is seeking a part time Senior Student Services Assistant. The primary focus off this position is to provide a variety of student academic advising and support services, including distance education students. This position reports to Director Academic Programs.
The responsibilities include:
Support GSPM's daily operations of student academic services for a portfolio of students by assisting student registration, billing and financial aid issues; guiding students in enrollment and course/program withdrawals and deferrals; processing forms for student enrollment (RTFs, incomplete contracts, leaves of absence).
Advise Program Directors and students of satisfactory academic progress and academic standing issues.
Prepare as requested written and oral reports on student issues and program progress for Program Directors and Director of Academic Administration.
Serve as primary contact for GSPM distance education partner.
Assist with report generation used to track student progress and retention.
Track progress toward degree completion; facilitate the distribution and collection of applications for completion of certificate and degree programs.
Coordinate and participate in orientation programs for new students, graduation, and other student service-related events.
Coordinate with admissions/recruitment team to ensure seamless transition from admitted to enrolled student.
Attend GSPM/College of Professional Studies meetings and events as requested by supervisor.
Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of student records/transcripts/files.
This position performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Excellent customer service, attention to detail, organization skills, writing and verbal communications and computer skills (Excel and PowerPoint).
Experience in a higher education environment is preferred.
Experience with collecting and analyzing data and communicating findings to interested stakeholders.
Experience in sales/recruitment, marketing, or program management.
Familiarity with CRM/CMS database and application software (preference for Salesforce and Hobson's Connect/ApplyYourself).
