The Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library of the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (UNTHSC) invites applications for the position of Library Associate Director. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to fill this position, which is primarily responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of a busy unit with 14 professional librarians and an equal number of support staff.

Located in Fort Worth, Texas, UNTHSC is a growing institution dedicated to training tomorrow's healthcare providers and researchers. More than 2400 students attend classes on our campus, which is situated in the city's cultural district just west of downtown Fort Worth. Lewis Library serves all parts of the institution, including the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Health Professions, School of Public Health, and UNT System School of Pharmacy.

Of special note, Lewis Library recently assumed responsibility for the provision of library services to the JPS Health Network, including the local county hospital and its robust system of community-based clinics. Another distinguishing feature of our library is that it has long maintained a strong outreach and community engagement program, employing a full-time Outreach Librarian since the early 1980s. Also, Lewis Library began serving as the host of the Regional Medical Library for the South Central Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine in May 2016.

Position Details
The Gibson D. Lewis Library at the UNT Health Science Center is seeking to hire an Associate Director to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

* Supervises Librarians responsible for and assists with managing a range of library operations, including but not limited to acquisitions, cataloging, serials, reference, instruction, clinical support, outreach, access services, and digital/technology services.
* Assists with the human resources management program of the library and oversees the national recruitment, retention, and development of librarians and staff, including but not limited to interviewing, hiring, performance appraisal, re-classifications, training, and discipline.
* Determines library budget priorities in collaboration with the Library Director and others, and authorizes expenditures in the Director's absence.
* Resolves operational and service issues as they arise, both alone and in consultation with the Library Director.
* Coordinates workflows and aligns staff assignments according to service needs and library priorities.
* Works closely with professional colleagues to support library initiatives.
* Partners with various departments, including IT, Facilities, Public Safety, and Student Affairs to ensure core public services at the library meet patrons' needs.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

Master's degree in library or information science and four (4) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications.

* Demonstrated ability to achieve quality results by planning and completing complex projects.
* Experience with and knowledge of the impact of technology on library operations.
* Experience with library assessment and strategic planning.
* Ability to effectively represent the library in a variety of internal and external settings.
* Ability to interact with other professionals, students, staff, and faculty in a collegial manner.
* Ability to work with library patrons to successfully resolve problems.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

* At least four years' experience working in an academic health science or a clinical medical library.
* Demonstrated ability to be successful in a complex and ever-changing work environment.
* Experience working in a range of library functional areas, including but not limited to acquisitions, cataloging, serials, reference, instruction, outreach, access services, and digital/technology services.
* Experience serving the information needs of healthcare professionals in a busy clinical setting.
* Experience with preparation of budgets and administrative and statistical reports.
* Experience supervising professional librarians.
* Demonstrated ability to work with diverse constituents to administer, provide and promote library services and programs.
