Nature of Work:

Department of Pediatrics, Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, School of Medicine is looking to fill a .5 FTE position. The laboratory focuses on mechanisms of allergy and the role of bacteria in intestinal inflammation utilizing cells, animal models and human samples. The investigator seeks an individual with a strong background in molecular biology ( DNA and RNA extraction, RT-PCR , cell biology (tissue culture and cells stimulation) and microbiology (cultivation of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria) . Responsibilities include: assistance in models of gastrointestinal inflammation, maintenance of cell lines, leukocyte isolation, microscopy, analysis of microbial products from translational studies (protein extraction, Q-PCR, and sequencing), bacterial culture, patient samples collection, ordering of reagents and supplies, lab maintenance, education of new lab members as to protocols. Experience in data analysis (Excel and Prism) and data presentation (Power point).

  • Cell culture and cell stimulation and collection
  • Microscopy, cell staining, immunofluorescence
  • Protein extraction, Western blotting
  • Collection of human samples for microbiology, histology
  • Bacterial culture
  • Isolation of leukocytes (eosinophils from peripheral blood)
  • Analysis of data (Excel, Prism)
  • Data Presentation (Power Point)


Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in Biology or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in biology or related field
  • One year experience with Microsoft office (power point, excel)
  • One year experience in a research laboratory
  • Experience in data analysis (Excel and Prism) and data presentation (Power point).

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Required Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Molecular biology (DNA, RNA, protein extraction, RT-PCR, Q-PCR)
  • Knowledge of Microbiology (cultivation of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria)
  • Knowledge of Tissue culture (cultivation of cell lines, cells stimulation and collection)
