University of North Texas - Communications Strategist for University and President Initiatives
The Division of University Relations, Communications and Marketing (URCM) at UNT is seeking to hire a Communications Strategist for University and President Initiatives (Communications Specialist IV) to join our team.This individual will support the mission and vision of the university by planning, writing, coordinating, managing and executing strategic content for university print and digital communications, with a specialized focus on university initiatives and president communications. This individual reports to the Director of Integrated Communications.This individual will oversee the creation of top-level messages to external and internal audiences, serving as a team lead for projects. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:* Understands UNT's mission and strategic goals, as well as key messaging, and works to help meet those goals as part of teams and independently.* Serves as primary writer and manages teams and team members charged with creating messaging for top-level university executives.* Creates materials that include speeches, talking points, presentations, written and online communications, video scripts, marketing materials and social media content.* Understands audiences and targets messaging by key audiences that include the campus community, external stakeholders and VIPs.* Leads team members who provide support in these areas and oversees their work in developing these materials.* Assists with monitoring president's social media properties, engaging with audience members where appropriate, answering questions, correcting misinformation, or directing them to UNT resources, as well leveraging the tools to create awareness about presidential initiatives.* Researches and reports on UNT's standing compared to our peer institutions and UNT's success rate as related to president initiatives and related projects. * Provides support, messaging and guidance, as needed, for members of the President's Cabinet and university leadership team on high level initiatives.* Serves as consultant with entities and departments across campus regarding best practices, strategies and goals for universitywide initiatives. The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Strategic Communications or related field and seven years of professional writing experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The following knowledge, skills and abilities are required:* Evidence of the ability to consult with cabinet level leadership with autonomy. * Ability to supervise and coordinate novel top-level university projects and the work of others.* Ability to conceptualize, write and edit strategic, accurate and concise content for internal and external audiences to best present the university's story and messaging.* Knowledge of higher education trends, as well as national and world news, with the ability to apply that knowledge to university goals and initiatives to make valid content strategy recommendations that move the university forward.* Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, conduct multiple tasks, establish and maintain effective working relationships.* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.* Extensive knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation and Associated Press and Chicago Manual styles, as well as the ability to employ these skills in the inspection of print and online copy and proofs.* Knowledge of writing styles and guidelines for various media formats and ability to create, coordinate and edit copy for each format (print, digital/social media, video, broadcast, etc).* Knowledge of and ability to research industry best practices.
