Primary Function of Organization Unit: The National Science Foundation Center for Integrated Pest Management (NSFCIPM) was established in 1991 to serve a lead role in technology development, program implementation, training, and public awareness for IPM at the state, regional, and national level. NSFCIPM fosters the development and implementation of pest management programs. NSFCIPM is an Industry / University Cooperative Research Center, which works to support and further Integrated Pest Management through the evaluation of emerging technologies, information management and dissemination, environmental stewardship, estimation of economic consequences, resistance management tools and systems, and integration of disciplinary expertise. The Center manages grants programs for the USDA, develops regional and national priorities through workshops and stakeholder meetings, and develops and maintains large databases and database applications for USDA, EPA, and Ministries of Agriculture in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.
Essential Job Duties: The incumbent will carry out work supporting cooperative activities between U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS and the NSF Center for Integrated Pest Management (CIPM). The main responsibility of the incumbents is to conduct pest risk analysis (PRA), consistent with USDA and international (IPPC, WTO) guidelines, disciplines and obligations. This PRA work plays important rule supporting U.S. agricultural trades. Applicant will collect and/or develop data, evaluate the quality of data, draw inferences from data, and use data as the basis for drafting risk analyses. He/she will also perform other duties as assigned. Individuals will be required to work in a team environment but will have primary responsibility for assigned projects.
Minimum Education/Experience: Position requires an M.S. degree in plant pathology/nematology, entomology, or other related field with additional experience with data management, pest surveys, and crop production, or a relevant undergraduate degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience.
Department Required Skills: * Must have computer word processing, spreadsheet, mapping and other computer-related skills. * Must have superior analysis and writing skills. * Ability to perform extensive literature reviews to acquire the most up-to-date information on pests with the ability to develop, evaluate and draw inferences from the data. * Ability to conceptualize and complete analyses that clearly and completely address prescribed objectives. * Ability to develop high quality written analyses that require minimal editing. * Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team to meet agreed upon deadlines.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Prefer Ph.D. in plant pathology/nematology, entomology, or other related field.
