The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia seeks to hire a full-time professional to serve as an integral member of Commerce Career Services. As a part of a dynamic team committed to providing exceptional service to students and employers, the Senior Assistant Director must be an innovative, enthusiastic and results-oriented team player. The Senior Assistant Director for Career Development will lead career advising and programming for the MS in Management of IT (MIT) program and the future M.S. in Business Analytics one year master's program. Although the Senior Assistant Director for Career Development will focus on services for graduate students, he or she will also interact with, advise and serve undergraduate students in the overall support of the career advising team
The Senior Assistant Director for Career Development will consult with graduate students in the M.S. in MIT program on an individual basis as well as conduct a host of programs and workshops that will support the evolving needs of this population. M.S. in MIT students are typically working professionals with a minimum of two years of work experience that includes significant managerial or technical involvement with IT. Of equal importance, the Sr. Assistant Director will serve as the McIntire career advising lead for the new M.S. in Business Analytics Program and will collaborate closely with career services partners at the Darden School of Business in the creation and execution of robust and innovative career development initiatives.
This person will serve as a vital member of the larger Career Development Team, which works very closely and collaborates on student advising, programs, and employer engagement, though this position will also work somewhat autonomously on certain initiatives that are specialized for students that are more experienced as well as alumni. Advising includes assistance with career exploration and research, resume/CV writing, networking, interviewing skills, online media presence, job search strategies, offer evaluations and professional development.
Additionally, this position will serve as the internal advising lead for technology-related careers including IT and business analytics and will develop resources and programs to expose undergraduate and graduate students to companies and opportunities in these areas. Strategic collaboration with faculty, alumni, employers and affiliate career offices will be key along with maintaining up-to-date knowledge and information about technology careers through ongoing research and interactions with alumni and industry professionals
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
-Demonstrated ability to perform with a high degree of professionalism in all work settings and functions including all interactions with students, employers, faculty and alumni.
-Ability to manage multiple projects, solid planning and organizational skills, a high degree of quality and attention to detail is critical.
-A highly motivated self-starter with strong work ethic and genuine interest in providing exceptional service to students, employers, faculty and alumni will thrive in the Commerce Career Services culture.
-Availability to work evenings and occasional weekends as necessary (most career-related programs occur after 5:00pm) and travel to the Northern Virginia area. Initial travel requirements will be minimal though will likely increase after one year.
