Position Summary

The Counseling Center offers a range of services designed to promote the personal growth, academic success and emotional health of students. As a unit within Student Health Services, the staff of the Counseling Center provides services that not only enhance the quality of students' college experiences but also contributes to their academic retention and success. In addition, the Counseling Center offers services and programs to promote positive mental health throughout the University community. The Psychologist/Counselor's primary role is to provide short term individual therapy, initial screenings and risk assessments, group therapy, crisis intervention, outreach programs to UNCG students, consultation to faculty and staff and supervision and training of intern/practicum graduate students.



Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctorate from an accredited program in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselor Education, or Social Work. Licensed, or license eligible by the State of North Carolina to practice clinical services within his/her area of competency. Continued employment is contingent on acquiring North Carolina License within 12 months of employment. Demonstrated proficiency in and a commitment to multicultural competence and experience working with individuals from culturally diverse populations, as well as underrepresented and/or under-served populations. Demonstrated understanding and clinical application of the intersectionality of identity and mental health. Demonstrated proficiency with the DSM-5. Ability to work effectively with young adults. Strong interpersonal skills.



Preferred Qualifications

Strongly Preferred:

  • At least one year of full time or equivalent experience in a college counseling center.
  • Experience/expertise in working with communities of color and/or men's issues.
  • Experience/expertise in interpersonal violence and/or experience/expertise working with veterans and their families.
